Mutations of the ras Proto - Oncogenes in Childhood
نویسنده
چکیده
ras gene mutations are the most frequent molecular changes found in the preleukemic syndromes of adults and may play a role in initiating these diseases and in their progression to acute leukemia. However, little is known about the incidence or importance of these genetic mutations in childhood myeloproliferative states (MPS). The bone marrow (BM) monosomy 7 syndrome accounts for a large percentage of childhood MPS. Although the duration of the MPS is quite variable, children with monosomy 7 eventually develop acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We investigated 20 children (13 with MPS, 7 with AML) with BM monosomy 7 or 7qfor the presence of ras gene mutations using the polymerase chain reaction and hybridization with mutation-specific oligonucle-

Background: Acute leukemia is the prevalent malignancy in pediatrics. One of the most important causing factors of acute lymphoblastic leukemia is mutations of proto oncogenes and their chang in to oncogenes. Activation of N-RAS proto-oncogene due to point mutations plays a major role in ALL malignancy. Since there was no report on the frequency of N-RAS gene mutation in Iranian pediatric AL...

متن کاملA review of retinoblastoma disease
Retinoblastoma is a rare type of eye cancer that usually occurs in early childhood, usually before the age of five. This type of cancer occurs in the retina, the light-sensitive tissue behind the eye that recognizes light and color. It is the most common type of eye cancer in children. One-third of all retinoblastomas are inherited, meaning that mutations in the RB1 gene are present in all cell...
متن کاملRAS proto-oncogene in medullary thyroid carcinoma.
Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is a rare malignancy originating from the calcitonin-secreting parafollicular thyroid C cells. Approximately 75% of cases are sporadic. Rearranged during transfection (RET) proto-oncogene plays a crucial role in MTC development. Besides RET, other oncogenes commonly involved in the pathogenesis of human cancers have also been investigated in MTC. The family of ...
متن کاملAnalysis of correlated mutations in Ras G-domain
Ras GTPases are most prevalent proto-oncogenes in human cancer. Mutations in Ras remain untreatable more than three decades after the initial discovery. At the amino acid level, some residues under physical or functional constraints exhibit correlated mutations also known as coevolving/covariant residues. Revealing intra-molecular co-evolution between amino acid sites of proteins has become an ...
